1) the quiet. most people would consider it forlorn, but I find there is a unique kind of peace in the deserted nature of our campus when it rains like this, the only movement around you being either an unfortunate few making their way indoors or the rain traveling through air, off table tops, down walkways.
2) the walkways under the trees. my school is abound with constructed nature—trees around paved walkways. when the rain collects enough to flood the entire surface of the concrete, one of the things I like best is walking through it and watching the floor. let your shoes hit the puddles and watch traveling reflections of the undersides of trees edged onto reflections of the sky. it’s really pretty, honestly.
3) the sounds. conversations are always muffled, hidden somewhere in the pockets of warmth all over campus. all you can really hear is the rain and its patter against your umbrella.
4) the company.
